Abbey Park - We believe that the ark is accessible, has hard surfaced paths, accessible toilets, a sensory garden with raised beds and a Changing Places facility - "On the western side of the river are the fascinating Abbey Grounds with the remains of the twelfth century Leicester Abbey, and the ruins of Cavendish House, a seventeenth century mansion. Abbey Park Café and pets corner are also located on this side of the park. To the east of the river lies the highly decorative Victorian part of the park with its evergreen shrubberies, trees, boating lake, miniature railway, and formally planted flower displays." - from the Leicester City Council website

Ashby Woulds Heritage Trail - "The Ashby Woulds Heritage Trail follows the old Ashby and Nuneaton Railway, which itself replaced an 18th-century canal" "100% Traffic-free | 72.6% Unsealed firm, 15.4% Asphalt, 12.0% Unsealed loose" - from the Sustrans website

Barnsdale Gardens - Oakham - "With thirty eight individual gardens in an eight-acre site, there's plenty to see and do at Barnsdale Gardens" "Barnsdale has been recognised with an award by the Rutland Access Group for its accessible facilities, which include: accessible parking, accessible toilets and ramp-access to parts of the gardens where necessary. We also have wheelchairs and a mobility scooter, which visitors are free to use. Battlefield Heritage Centre and Country Park - (charges) - "The Battlefield Centre site is fully accessible and includes a lift from the Exhibition Galleries to the shop has a free charge Mobility Scooter and 2 Manual Wheelchairs available for the use of visitors - (pre-booking recommended). Beacon Hill Country Park - We understand that there are surfaced accessible paths within the park, accessible toilets and disabled parking - "Walkers, cyclists and horse riders alike can take advantage of our multiuse track which loops around the edge of the park. There is also a network of paths throughout the park solely for pedestrians. Visitors can enjoy rock climbing, orienteering, jogging and general exercise or enjoy bird watching and gentle strolls in the peace and quiet." - from the Leicestershire Country Parks website
Bouskell Park - Blaby - We understand that the park is accessible for wheelchairs, with surfaced paths and a number of benches. "Those interested in history can check out the Victorian Manor House Blaby Hall, it's magical and newly-restored Ice House and a topography shaped by hundreds of years of settlement. Nature is abundant with a large pond, many types of birds and insects and large patches of woodland." from the Blaby District Council website

Bradgate Park - "The Park offers a wild and rugged landscape with dramatic rocky outcrops and gnarled old oak trees, many of which are well over 500 years old." "If you do not fancy exploring the hills, the lower part of the Park is easily accessible, with a tarmac carriage-way running through this area, that is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs." - from the Bradgate Park Trust website
Crow Mills Way Trail - Wigston - We understand that this trail is accessible to wheelchairs, the leaflet says "Pushchair friendly" and runs along a disused railway line - "The paths here allow a circular walk with elevated views over South Leicestershire. This walk runs along a disused railway line through beautiful woodland adjacent to the Grand Union Canal and River Sence. Donisthorpe Woodland Park - "Donisthorpe Woodland Park is a 36-hectare former colliery site in The National Forest. The site has been restored and now supports 20 hectares of beautiful mixed woodland and 3km (1.85 miles) of stone-surfaced paths, which are suitable for all users." Fosse Meadows Nature Area - Sharnford - "A car park, picnic area, dog bins and two wheelchair friendly gates and an accessible toilet are available on site. There is a good network of public footpaths which cross Fosse Meadows " - from the Blaby District Council website

Glen Parva Nature Reserve - We understand that there are surfaced paths as well as the multi user cycle trail - "A Green Flag award-winning site with walks over the fields and alongside the Grand Union Canal. The path through this area is part of the Sustrans cycle route and links up with the Great Central Way and Aylestone Holt Spinney. Lyndon Nature Reserve - "Home of the iconic Rutland Ospreys, and one half of the beautiful Rutland Water Nature Reserve, Lyndon Nature Reserve lies on the south shore of the reservoir" "The visitor centre, car park and trails are located off the Lyndon Road, on the south shore of Rutland Water. Follow the drive down to the car park. Market Bosworth Country Park - "The network of surfaced paths throughout the park provides access for all and an opportunity for walking and jogging. There are many seats along the trails for visitors to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet." "Market Bosworth Country Park, with its open grassland is a great place for family ball games and other activities such as kite flying. Oakthorpe Picnic Site - "There are surfaced paths suitable for all users (wheelchair users will require assistance due to inclines)" from the Leicestershire Country Parks website also see Willesley Wood which adjoins the Picnic Site "An all-abilities footpath makes a small circuit of the western end of the wood. There are a number of benches along the way that offer good views of Thortit Lake. The path can be accessed from Oakthorpe Colliery Picnic Site." from the Woodland Trust website.
Rutland Water - "The paths on the Nature Reserve are gravel and are well maintained. A map is available showing the most accessible routes" (see below) "Numerous benches are situated along the paths" "The length of track between Whitwell and Rutland Sailing Club (approx. 5 miles in length) is tarmac and a smooth surface. Cattle grids are in place to stop the movement of sheep, where these found side gates are provided that are self closing. Sarah’s Wood - Moira - "Sarah’s Wood is a 10 hectare (25 acre) woodland on the edge of Moira, designed with the aim of providing an accessible woodland for all. It was created by Leicestershire County Council, the National Forest Company and SOS (Stars Organisation Supporting Action for People with Cerebral Palsy). The woodland was given its name as a result of a competition run by the Leicester Mercury newspaper. The winning name was chosen in recognition of the support that Sarah Louise Goudie, a five year old child suffering from cerebral palsy, had given to the SOS woodland appeal. In October 1995, the new woodland was officially named ‘Sarah’s Wood’ in her honour. SOS Member Alan Titchmarsh planted the first trees in the new woodland. Today, Sarah’s Wood has transformed into an attractive woodland and wildlife haven, comprising native broadleaf trees, hedgerows and a hay meadow." - from the Leicestershire Country Parks website
